Description of project and services rendered
The objectives of the study are to:
  • Provide the government and other actors of the wood sector in Gabon with a clear vision on the perspectives of evolution in the medium and long term of the Gabon wood market;
  • Analyze the functions of the NWSG, the pertinence of its actual functions, and its performances in relation to its functions;
  • Analyze the new activities that the NWSG can develop (re-positioning), by leaning on the new tendencies of the sector (emergence of various wood and industrialization) and due to the tendency of its decreased volume of traditional activities (export of citrus fruits) and the orientations of the public power
  • Support the government in defining concrete modalities of transition to these new activities and, eventually the new status that this change will imply (re-structuring)
The study had four phases:
  • First Phase: Brief Analysis of the wood sector
  • Second phase: Analysis-diagnostic of the NWSG by function
  • Third phase: Analysis of possible scenarios of progress/repositioning
  • Fourth Phase: Support in the set of the chosen scenario
Obtained Results:
  • Analysis/diagnostic of the sector and analysis by function of the NWSG
  • Analysis of reform scenarios and recommendation of a particular scenario
  • Outline of the regulation texts and the complete restructuring plan that corresponds to the chosen Scenario
